To support opportunities for veterans to access substance use disorder (SUD) services in their communities, Symetria Recovery’s Veterans Outreach Director (VOD) will help develop, implement, and execute outreach and educational activities to effectively interface with the Veterans Administration, Veteran Service Organizations, and community/civic entities serving veterans in Texas. It has been demonstrated that the most effective ways to build veteran awareness specific to their ability to access optima programs for their care, is to advance outreach and education to physicians, hospitals, healthcare agencies, community organizations, local government, associations, universities, and area businesses in Texas. The role will assist in the development and execution of strategic plans aimed at increasing awareness of Symetria’s value proposition and network of medication-assisted treatment facilities while promoting Symetria’s services and reputation in a professional, creative, and energetic manner.
This position requires travel between the Houston, Waco/Temple, and DFW markets to initiate contact, develop and maintain relationships, and maximize referral potential. Should the need arise in the future, the position may also involve supervision and direction of other veteran outreach and education staff.
Research and understand the substance use disorder (SUD) resources and referral processes employed by VAMC’s in Texas.
Study the VA’S Community Care Network (CCN) and understand what processes and procedures need to be understood and mastered to gain VAMC authorizations for care via the CNN.
Analyze veteran-related treatment, hospital, and healthcare organization trends, incorporating data in support of segment targeting and prioritization to identify areas of improvement, preferences, and needs
Assist the Director of Marketing and Operations Manager in performing veteran segment market analysis and developing corresponding strategies to develop relationships within this discreet segment, throughout the assigned area
Assist in the design and implementation of successful outreach and education campaigns for treatment, hospital, and healthcare segment
Provide exceptional customer service in managing VA hospital, business, community, and nonprofit constituencies including VFWs, American Legions, and Auxiliary relationships
Plan and organize activities to enhance professional engagement with the VA’s Community Care Network (CCN) treatment partners; and plan daily activities to optimize the use of time to support the state’s VAMC facilities in their goal to provide optimal substance use disorder care for veterans
Work collaboratively with other departments, community relations managers, Clinical Operations staff, and Mountain Lake Associates to maximize operations at all Texas clinics
Assist in the development and maintenance of tracking systems for admission activities to keep VAMC referral sites apprised of veteran progress
Support and augment social media presence and contribute to company and clinic’s bandwidth
Perform any such other and further duties to advance veteran well-being, access to care, and the Symetria mission.
Experience, Skills, and/or Requirements
Service in the United States military with an honorable discharge
BS/BA degree required with a minimum of 2 years healthcare or proven outreach-related work experience in a Marketing, Sales, Community Outreach, Health Education or Public Relations role required. Equivalent experience may be substituted for educational requirements.
Clinical and behavioral health experience is advantageous, yet not a requirement
Ability to create and sustain positive impressions and relationships with professionals and veterans in all segments, including professional demeanor, appearance, and speaking skills.
Must adhere to all organization compliance policies and procedures as written or verbally communicated.
Ability to demonstrate exceptional verbal and written communication skills including but not limited to accurate and timely reporting, documentation of activities, response to emails, phone calls, or other messages required.
Possess a thorough understanding and firm knowledge of private treatment and healthcare settings and the ability to use the knowledge and understanding to build relationships and increase patient referrals.
Ability to demonstrate a strong and clear understanding of the organization’s structure, method, and medication-assisted treatment (MAT) products, and utilize this information to ensure that referents thoroughly understand same.
Understanding of HIPAA standards and responsibilities specific to patient personal information (PPI)
Must have a reliable automobile with adequate insurance and a current driver’s license.
Must have social media knowledge and the ability to utilize all forms of technology.
Must have excellent computer proficiency skills, including MS Office, Excel, and other forms of technology.
Must demonstrate strong attention to detail.
Able to work with minimal supervision.
Able to work within KIPU or similar EHR/EMR software preferred.
Symetria’s marketing and operations staff to include Clinic Program Directors (PD) Texas Regional Director (RD - PD’s report to RD), Community Relations Managers (CRM’s), Senior Leadership, counselors, front office staff, nurses, and physicians.
Develop and maintain professional relationships with CCN partners, referral sources, and outside constituents.
Participate in community and professional continuing education, training, and conferences.
Knowledge of VA service providers.
Knowledge of VA care and CCN referral systems.
Knowledge of Veteran NGO providers in the TX region and their respective missions.
Knowledge of All Collateral Materials utilized for VA-related outreach and education.
Knowledge of VA Authorizations, HSRM system, and MLA Protocols and requirements.
Must be able to lift 30 pounds, sit or stand for extended periods of time and be willing and able to travel extensively by vehicle.
